On our first day, lots of kids showed up help clean all the rubbish off the site & bag it up to make earth bag structures in the future. Whilst the plastic patrol was on the job, the local men along with Wombat and Steve laid in the first poles for the fence which is designed to keep dogs & chickens out. It was such a successful morning & we are so grateful to all those that showed up to help out.
Last friday the Green Warrior team started constructing the fence for the Community Garden we are starting in Barangay Ipil. The site is on a vacant block of land that is currently used as a dumping ground for waste and all of the fallen branches post Yolanda. Upon speaking with the land owner and Barangay Captain, they have very kindly offered the land to us for free to build an organic community garden designed around the principles of permaculture. This garden will provide year round food security for the community as well as a social space to learn about permaculture practices and healthy cooking. It will also incorporate typhoon-resistant, sustainable structures such as a lorena stove & earth bag designs which will serve as a model for other Barangays.
